TO PARIS, FROM NEW YORK

A streetlight shines through the fog
Like a porch light surrounded by moths
It whispers to the one who’s been gone
Come kiss me, it’s been far too long

And the river carries the sigh
The ending of last year’s goodbye
The ebbing of tears we both cried
Lifts like the mist in the sky

And the moon is full behind his eyes
I feel the pull of flooding tides
This city’s grip holds me tight
But I feel it slipping in the night…

Paris, it’s for you that I burn
These evenings when your breath can be heard
In the clicking of wet cobblestone
Sweet Paris, I am coming home
